Job Hunting Tips for the Laid-off
-
Losing your job is like identity theft, your sense of who you are can vanish. Since the recession hit on early 2007, this pace of years is probably the most meanest layoffs which affected all over the world. We hear stories from close friends and families about this matter but what they can do is to be smarter, tougher, and move forward.
Wait a Few Days or weeks to sent out your resume. You won’t be thinking totally clearyle those first couple of days, so it’s not a good time to make judgments about your resume and what kind of job you want.
Don’t Worry about sharing your news because there’s no shame in being laid off. When you’re ready tell the people you’re on the market.
Use the right words when talking with potential employers. Say, ‘Unfortunately, due to the current economy, my company had layoffs and I was the one who lost my job’. Don’t use the word ‘Fired’ as it implies you were at fault.
Don’t stay angry at past employer. That resentment can wind up working against you, so dig deep and let it go. You’ll need a reference from your old job someday.
Maintain a daily schedule to get you up and moving through your day.
Don’t spend hours on job websites. They can be helpful but they can also vacuum up your free time. Most people still find jobs through their own networking.
